Foon Yew was formed in 1913 as a primary school in British Malaya by chinese. In 1960's ,it refused government's proposal
to become a National School, at which will make chinese education in the newly formed Malaysia extinct. Its primary school
followed government's proposal and accepted government's aid. The secondary school became a Chinese Independence High School,
the first and the largest at that time.Chinese Independence High School did not receive government's aid and most of the privileges
the government schools receive. The campus was located in Johor Bahru, facing Johor Straits and Singapore. In 1997, rising
of the number of students forced it to open another campus in Kulai, which was approved in 1998.The campus was completed in
late 2004. Today, with over 8000 students and 2 campuses, Foon Yew High School became the largest secondary school in Malaysia.
Geographic Details
Foon Yew High School-Kulai is located in Indahpura, a future residential area .Today ,hills and oil palm plantation surrounded
the school. That place is different form the others, in the morning ,fog covered the campus along with students unboarding
from their schoolbuses. In the afternoon ,the breeze kept the classroom's temperature within the range of 26-28 degrees Celcius.Rainy
days are loved by most students, fogs,winds and the panorama of the distant hills mixed with grey,green and blue.The temperature
of the classroom often falls to 25 degree celcius at this time.
The land area of the school is 30ha, which is the size that not many school can have,this size of land is nearly
as big as a university's land area. It have 8 buildings in total.
